As kids go back to school, adults get back into their routines too. As a dietitian, it's something I've noticed, and looked forward to, over the last 16 years. Even those without kids return to a more normal routine come late August. While I love summer, this is a perfect time to reassess your health and food choices so you can feel your best come the holidays. Here are three action items to get you back on track with your nutrition.
Get back on your normal supplements. Did you forget them when you went on vacation and just never got back to taking them? Set them out somewhere you'll see them in the morning, like by your toothbrush or coffee pot.
More ice cream, alcohol and late night eating in the summer can leave your gut health a mess. Cover the basics of good gut health by limiting ultra processed foods, eating sources of real fiber like berries, oats and broccoli, drink plenty of water and cut off night snacking at least 2 hours before bed. Your digestive tract needs rest too!
Ups and downs are normal in a healthy lifestyle. If you feel like you're in a down, try food journaling for a couple of weeks to increase mindfulness around food. Journals can help point out what's missing from your diet, not just what you get too much of. If you are a current or past client, try my journal reviews option. You'll get a weekly, detailed food journal review, plus unlimited chat, encouragement and accountability. Learn more here.
